Farrow & Ball Stirrabout no.300

When our client reached out, her vision was clear: to elevate her kitchen into something brighter, more contemporary, yet respectful of its beautifully crafted foundations. The space was generous in size, and the joinery—crafted in contrasting sycamore and walnut—was nothing short of exquisite. We immediately recognised the challenge: to honour the quality of the original woodwork while breathing new life into the room.

Though the craftsmanship was of an exceptional standard, the overall effect felt subdued. The similarity in tone between the cabinetry, flooring, and walls cast a shadow over the intricate detail and rich materiality of the space. Our client initially considered repainting only the sycamore sections to create contrast. However, after reviewing sprayed samples—including one in Farrow & Ball Jitney no.293, which proved too warm and red in tone—we agreed to respray the entire kitchen in Farrow & Ball Stirrabout No.300, a nuanced neutral that brought clarity and light to the space without overpowering its architectural depth.

The result is a timeless, refined palette that enhances both the form and function of this remarkable kitchen—executed with the singular focus and precision that defines every KitchenScape project.
